About Kathleen (Katie) E. Klas, RN, FA, MS, CPNP-AC/PC

Katie moved to Arizona in 1998 after completing her BSN at D'Youville College and earning highest honors with the Margaret P Curry Silver Medal of Honor from that program. She began her Masters at ASU in the Fall of 1999 and completed her degree with a 4.0 in May 2002. Her thesis was a comprehensive look at Compliance to Immunizations. She then practiced at Scottsdale Children's Group for a year before subspecializing in neurosurgery in 2003. She developed this role at PCH and has cared for patients; inpatient, assisting in surgery and in the outpatient setting. She runs independent clinics everyday throughout the valley including our Thomas campus, Scottsdale, and East Valley satellites as well as at the CRS clinic. She has a special interest in concussion and sees the majority of non sports related concussion patients for the neurosurgery division.

Katie has always had a special interest in the congential neurosurgery patients with such conditions as hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and synostosis. She will see all conditions within the neurosurgery division. She sees a great deal of plagiocephaly or concerns with head shape and head size. She spends a lot of time educating during her visits. She has also done many community presentations as well as mentored upward of 15 nurse practitioners with a special interest in neurosurgery during their graduate studies.

Katie is married to Jon Klas and they have 2 daughters, Alyssa and Addison. She is a full time Mom, outside of her time as a full time nurse practitioner here at PCH. She is the softball Mom, Room Mom, and helps to coach cross country at her daughters school. Outside of this she enjoys baking, cooking, hiking, and traveling. Her passion in life is the lives of children, both her own and her patients. Her second passion is the outdoors.
