Conditions We Treat

Pain Medicine

Phoenix Children’s offers one of the nation’s most comprehensive pain management programs. Our multidisciplinary pain medicine teams develop tailored treatment plans that address both acute and chronic painful conditions in children of all ages, including:

Acute Pain

We treat acute pain, which is pain that typically lasts less than three months. Pain medicine teams may be involved in care for these and many other conditions:

  • Chronic pain with an acute pain crisis
  • Cancer
  • Severe or advanced-stage illness
  • Sickle cell disease crisis
  • Surgery wounds and surgical conditions
  • Traumatic injury or other trauma

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain lasts longer than three months. Some diseases and medical conditions are directly or indirectly associated with chronic pain. These range from a number of autoimmune disorders to different types of cancer and its treatments or complications. In some instances, the cause of pain is unknown.
